Nitya was first introduced to yoga at age 4 when her mom signed her up for ballet lessons combined with yoga! Nitya’s love for the practice was immediate and has continued throughout her life.
For many years Nitya studied meditation, advanced pranayamas, Advaita Vedanta, the Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures on her own until she moved to New York City and began attending programs and providing seva at the Sivananda Center. Nitya spent three years as a part time karma yogi at the center, before committing herself fully to the ashram life for another three years (in both the USA and India). In that time, Nitya completed the Sivananda 200hr teacher training course. She attended numerous advanced teacher training classes and intensives throughout the years and also performed a 45 day solo silent pranayama retreat in the Himalayas, practicing up to 10 hours a day. She is an Advanced Yoga Nidra Instructor and has assisted numerous teacher training courses in NY and India.
She formed the Surya Chandra Yoga International school as a way to collaborate with like minded individuals in the propagation of yoga and held their first training in India in Oct of 2018 in Kannur, Kerala. In Oct. 2019, she and the amazing guest lecturers set forth to offer their love and knowledge in Bayside Queens on a part time basis to accommodate those unable to travel away from home for a month. And here we are with their 3rd teacher training course, back in Bayside. There is a Chinese speaking translator available, so if this is necessary for you please do let us know! We are happy to assist.
In addition to teaching yoga, Nitya also serves as a health coach, Ayurvedic personal chef, advanced Yoga Nidra instructor, sound vibration healer, Reiki Grandmaster, Polarity Therapy practitioner and meditation counselor.
Her life is dedicated to living and teaching a holistic lifestyle based in yoga and truth. She follows the teachings of Self realization and following your inner teacher. She has no allegiance to any spiritual or religious organization.
